Proposed Constitutional Amendment 7 on Missouri Nov. 5 ballot bans Rank Choice Voting

Description

The Republican dominated Missouri legislature has placed proposed constitutional amendment 7 on the statewide Missouri ballot for November 5, 2024 with two provisions:

Ban persons who are not U.S. citizens from voting in Missouri elections (though the Missouri Constitution already provides for this),

Ban any jurisdiction in Missouri from enacting Rank Choice Voting.

Rachel MacNair and Greg Swartz, President and Treasurer of Preserve Local Elections, discuss why they oppose this proposed amendment. They will explain what Rank Choice Voting (RCV) is and why they favor the implementation of RCV throughout Missouri and do not want it banned.

They, also, believe that the provision banning non-citizen voting is not necessary, because it is already law and was placed on this amendment to lead voters to support the amendment unnecessarily – to mislead voters from the true purpose of the amendment, which is banning RCV.
